Spot or flood lights?

DRIVING ON PAVED ROADS
If you're going to spend a lot of time on paved roads, even on smooth dirt roads, a spotlight is what you'll be needing. By definition, a spotlight casts a narrow beam of light, usually no wider than 45 degrees. This beam is more concentrated and easier to point and control.

When driving at very high speeds such as on highways, a spotlight's illumination travels farther allowing you to see objects far down the road, identifying potential hazards well before you reach them. Plus, paved roads doesn't really have a lot of obstructions on the side of the road, something spotlight beams cannot fully address. Though spotlights offer excellent forward illumination, because of its narrow beam pattern, you'll lose a bit of side to side illumination.

OFF-ROADING AND CAMPING
Now, if you're going off-roading, then you'll need floodlights installed. A floodlight throws a beam spread of up to 120 degrees and can illuminate a wider amount of space but at a shorter distance compared to a spotlight.

Floodlights are ideal for trailing as they offer better side to side illumination with their wider coverage. Since you'll be travelling at low speed, long distance illumination isn't really a must. You'll have ample time to recognize potential hazards with plenty of time to avoid them. Having side-to-side illumination, however, lets you see hazards that may be at the side of the road such as low-lying branches and other road hazards that may be coming towards you from the side of the road including fallen trees and large rocks. You can also use floodlights to illuminate your camp site.
