A snorkel is an aftermarket accessory which raises the level of air intake to roof height thereby lessening the chance of water entering the engine when crossing rivers or in the case of Metro Manila, flooded areas. TYPES
There are two types of snorkels -the ram and the vortex snorkel - both ensuring the same end result but using different process.

1. Ram snorkel
In a ram snorkel, when a vehicle is in motion, air is rammed down the ‘scoop’ of the snorkel with dust, moisture and other impurities vented through the drain holes allowing cooler, cleaner, and moisture-free air into the air intake.

2. Vortex snorkel
In the case of the vortex snorkel, a series of blades at the bottom of the snorkel head causes the air to rotate within creating a centrifugal force which throws impurities to the bottom of the bowl. Clean, moisture-free air is then funneled down into the engine.
