Defender of Style - Pt. 1

Owning a Land Rover, be it a Series, Disco, Defender, or a Range Rover, means driving something dependable, durable, powerful, iconic, a global automotive brand with a rich history. Did you know that Land Rovers and Range Rovers are the Royal family's favorite? How's that for a vote of confidence?

We all know stock (Rovers) rock. But at the end of the day, it's all about the owner's individual style, design preference, and character.

A stock Land Rover Defender 110 is a sight to behold and will surely draw attention as it makes its way along the streets of the Metro. But what about a 110 fitted with accessories, such as, let's say, an A-bar, roof rack, ladder, and massive tyres. Not only will it merit more than second glances from other drivers and pedestrians, its unique look will say more about the owner's personality -- who might be an adventurer, an outdoorsman, or a good Samaritan, ready to help when disaster strikes.

MEET JOHNNY
Having said all these, we'd like to introduce Britpart's resident ambassador, Johnny DEF, a 2015 Land Rover Defender 110 who's gone through multiple upgrades not only to make him well-suited for the streets of Metro Manila but to relay an important message as well. You see, at Britpart we'd like to show what we we're about - and we do it by walking, or more appropriately, driving the talk.

Johnny, was modified and tuned to provide power when needed, comfort for both driver and passenger, and to relay visually what a Defender represents or what it can become, without distoring the original package, the original image the owner fell in love with.

Below is a list of mods and upgrades we've installed with their corresponding Britpart Product Number. Just in case you want look like a chip of the 'ol block.

STAGE 1 - ENGINE MODS
To get the most (power) from Johnny's engine, an intercooler (DA4634) was installed to increase engine power and reduce fuel consumption. Made from polished aluminium and 30% larger than the standard intercoolers, this unit allows air to cool before entering the engine. which may mean an increase in engine power by up to 25bhp. Other benefits include better throttle response and reduction in fuel consumption.

Peak air filters were also installed (DA4379) to allow for maximum breathing efficiency for the engine along with a Britpart tuning box (DA4507) which increases power by 27bhp (20kw) and torque by 71Nm. This tuning unit is designed to plug directly into the wiring loom and requires no modification to the vehicle.

Lastly, for cooler airflow to the engine which allows for additional power, XS bonnet vents (DA1974) and air intake vents (DA1970) were also added.

Stay tuned for part 2 to find out what Johnny had to undergo to become what he is today - a superstar!
